WOODWARD, BERTIE, 389 Gladstone Street, 276492, Sapper, 96th Light Railway Operating Company Royal Engineers. Drowned, aged 24, on the 31.12.17 in the Mediterranean. It is believed that he was on the HT OSMANIEH which was sunk by a mine entering the port of Alexandria on the 31.12.17. However, the HT ARAGON was torpedoed on the 30.12.17 entering Alexandria and they were carrying men of the 96th while the OSMANIEH was carrying men of the 98th Light Railway Operating Company. Therefore there is some slight confusion as to which ship he was on. The son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Woodward of 389 Gladstone St, Peterborough. No known grave he is commemorated on the Chatby Memorial, Egypt.
