ADAMS, WILLIAM HENRY, Born Peterborough, 2nd Engineer, Mercantile Marine. Died, aged 49, on the 18.9.18 when the SS JOHN O. SCOTT was torpedoed by the German Submarine UB-117. The husband of Lucy Ann Adams of 35 Wollaston Road, Cleethorpes. No known grave he is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial.

BATES, FREDERICK, 111 Huntley Grove, Woodston, 18478, Private, Royal Marine Light Infantry. Died, age unknown, on the 6.8.14 the result of an operation. No known next of kin. Buried in Deal Cemetery, Kent, Grave 4.1706

BELLAIRS, GEORGE, 11 Star Road, Deck Hand, Royal Naval Reserve (T). Died, age unknown, on the 15.11.19 at home from tuberculosis contracted whilst serving on HMS THEBAN. No other details known.  

BENTLEY, GEORGE THOMAS, Scotney Street, 154411, Chief Petty Officer, HMS FAULKNOR, Royal Naval Reserve. Accidentally drowned, aged 39, at Portsmouth on the 26.8.14. Awarded Long Service and Good Conduct Medals, also Royal Humane Society Medal for life saving, 26.1.07. The son of George and Matilda Bentley of Peterborough. Buried in Haslar Cemetery, Hampshire, Grave E.21.11

BLOODWORTH, REGINALD GEORGE, Peterborough, 33702, Ordinary Seaman, HMS INDEFATIGABLE, Royal Navy. Killed in action, age unknown, on the 31.5.16. No known next of kin. No known grave he is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Panel 12

BLOODWORTH, STEPHEN JAMES, Green Lane, SS6214, Ordinary Seaman, RN. Killed in action, aged 18, on the 29.1.16 when the Destroyer HMS VIKING was hit by a mine off Boulogne while taking troops to France. The son of Charles and Susannah Bloodworth of 28 Green Lane, Millfield, Peterborough. Born Helpston, Peterborough. Buried in Dover (St James) Cemetery. Grave L.K.25

BOWLES, HORACE WILLIAM EDWIN, 119 Crown Street, 4800, Signalman, HMS OTRANTO, Royal Navy. Died, age unknown, on the 6.10.18 when his ship was wrecked off the coast of Scotland. No known next of kin. Buried at Kilchoman, Island of Islay, Scotland, Grave 1.13

BOWLY, EDMOND MANSEL, Minster Precincts, Lieutenant, HMS NARBROUGH, Royal Navy. Went down with his ship and died aged 30, on the 12.1.18 off the coast of Scotland. The son of Comdr. J. E. Bowly R.N. and the husband of Elizabeth Manners Bowly of 119 Cromwell Rd, South Kensington, London. No known grave he is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Panel 28

BROUGHTON, JOHN DANIEL, Milton Street, J/61091, Boy 1st Class, HMS VANGUARD. Died, age unknown, on the 9.7.17 when HMS VANGUARD was sunk by an explosion of cordite charges in the main magazine, the cause of which was not fully identified. 804 died with only 2 survivors. The son of Robert and Sarah Broughton of 5 Milton Street, Peterborough. No known grave he is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. Panel 25.

BROWN, ARTHUR, Manor Farm, Walton, 2628, Able Seaman, 63rd Royal Naval Division (Hood Battalion), RNVR. Died of wounds, aged 35, on the 14.10.17 in Belgium. The son of Thomas and Eleanor Brown of Walton, Peterborough and the husband of Mary Brown of Armley Cottage, Carlton Rd, Boston, Lincs. Buried at Duhallow ADS Cemetery, Ypres, Grave I.E.9. 1914 Star

CLIFFE, HAROLD DE WITT, 130 St. Pauls Road, 4923, Able Seaman, Royal Naval Division, (Hood Battalion), RNVR. Killed in action, aged 24, on the 30.12.17 on the Somme. The son of Levi and Elizabeth Cliffe of 130 St. Paul's Rd, Peterborough. No known grave he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Panel 1a

DAY, JOHN THOMAS, Crown Street, 312283, Stoker 1st class, RN. Died through drowning, aged 32, on the 1.2.19. His ship was HMS SAXIFRAGE. The son of Thomas and Rhoda Day of 175 Crown Street, Peterborough. Buried in Plymouth (Weston Mill) Cemetery. Grave C.12558

FORTH, HARRY, 10 Hankey Street, 1547, Private, 1st Royal Marine Light Infantry. Killed in action, aged 23, on the 28.4.17 near Arras, France. The son of John and Mary Forth of 119 Mayors Walk, Peterborough. No known grave he is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Panel 1  

GIBSON, ROBERT, 13 Wellington Street, Boy 1st Class, HMS FORMIDABLE, Royal Navy. Lost with ship, aged 18, on the 1.1.15. The son of Thomas and Frances Pomeroy (formerly Gibson) of 13 Wellington St, Peterborough. A native of Bethnal Green, London. No known grave he is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Panel 6

HARDY, REGINALD, Granville Street, 2409, Able Seaman, HMS PEMBROKE, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Died of pneumonia, age unknown, on the 25.10.18 at the Royal Hospital, Chatham. The husband of Emily Hardy of 13 Savile St, Wakefield. Buried in Wakefield Cemetery,  Grave A.U.1317

The son of John and Elizabeth Partridge of 52 Walpole St, Peterborough. No known grave he is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Panel 1  

PENDRED, ALFRED JOSEPH, Walton, J/2418, Petty Officer, Royal Navy. Killed on the 7.3.16, aged 25, when the submarine E5 was sunk by the German Cruiser STASSBURG. The CWGC gives a date of death as the 11.3.16 but I believe this to be incorrect. The son of John and Hannah Pendred of Walton, Peterborough. No known grave he is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial. Panel 15.

POYSER, ALFRED FRANK LESLIE, Gladstone Street, 11163, Able Seaman, HMS ATTENTIVE II, Royal Navy. Accidentally drowned, aged 25, on the 3.7.18 in the Thames. The nephew of Mr and Mrs F. Leeding of Gladstone Street, Peterborough. Buried in Peterborough (Paston Church) Cemetery.

PRESTON, WILLIAM ROBERT, 62 St. Pauls Road, 14161, Private, Royal Marine Light Infantry. Killed, aged 27, in an explosion on the 27.5.15 on HMS PRINCESS IRENE in Sheerness Harbour. The son of Mr and Mrs W. Preston of Crown Street, Peterborough. Buried in Gillingham (Woodlands) Cemetery, Grave Naval 20.1038

RICE, CECIL FRANK, 475 Gladstone Street, 7200, Engine Room Artificer, HM Submarine E30. Killed in action, aged 28, on the 11.3.16 in the North Sea. The son of William and Mary Maria Rice of Peterborough and the husband of Sarah Rice of 5 Trafalgar Terrace, North Fields, Stamford. No known grave he is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial, Panel 17

TOWNEND, CHARLES WILLIAM, Born Peterborough, Boatswain, Mercantile Marine. Died, aged 50, on the 27.3.17 when the Fishing Trawler EXPEDIENT was scuttled by the German Submarine UC-75 in the North Sea. The son of Stephen and Elizabeth Townend of 17 Westbourne Street, Hull. No known grave he is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial.
